Lesson Plan

A.  Explain the difference in Consequences and Chastisement.

     1. Consequences are part of the natural order of God as Boss.

Galatians 6:7-8 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life ever lasting.”

  1. Chastisement is the supernatural order of God as FATHER!

B.  Explain that Chastisement is a display of God’s great Love for us as our Father.
Revelation 3:19 “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
Hebrews 12:5-13  “ 5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?  8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.  11Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. 12Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.”
C.  Chastisement is not a way for God to sooth His anger against the sin of His children.  It is a process of healing for us from God. When we humble ourselves before God can overtake the consequences of our poor choices and use them to teach us.  In chastisement, God only allows the consequences to come to pass that will teach and heal us.  (Psalm 103:8-14)
D.  Explain that we must confess our sins before God and be sorry for them, ask Him to forgive us and turn away from that sin in order to heal and flourish in seasons of Chastisement.  (1 John 1:9)  God Is FAITHFUL!
