Jesus What a Friend
Let God Be Magnified

Opening Prayer
: Join together in a prayer of thanks and praise as we
consider some of the ways God strengthens and helps
us in our daily walk with Him.

Memory Verse:
I will praise the name of God
with a song, And will magnify him with thanksgiving. Psalm 69:30

Jesus! what a Friend for sinners!
Jesus! Lover of my soul;
Friends may fail me, foes assail me,
He, my Savior, makes me whole.

Hallelujah! what a Savior!
Hallelujah! what a Friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, loving,
He is with me to the end.

Jesus! what a Strength in weakness!
Let me hide myself in Him.
Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing,
He, my Strength, my victory wins.

Suggested Materials for today's lesson --- cup of sand --- large Rock.

Opening Discussion Questions

1. Have you ever looked at a starry sky at night
and try to count all the stars ?

2. Have you ever been to a beach or a sandy place and try to count all the
grains of sand ?

3. Have you ever thought about how many different types of animals are
on this planet that live on earth or in the sea ?

4. Nature is one of the ways in which we have a powerful
witness of God around us at all times and the Bible
proclaims the following about the creation of God-- in Psalm 19:

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

The witness of His creation is a continual voice that is heard everywhere. The voice of nature cannot go unheard.

5. Have you ever thought about the people in your life that have helped you
to know of God -- that love and pray with you and for you ?

6. Have you thanked God for those loving
people He placed in your life ?

7. Is Jesus Christ on your list ?

Read the following :
For God sent not his Son into the world
to condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved. John 3:17

In today's Bible reading we will also see how the Word of God
is a continual help and witness in our lives. We will learn
what David declares about God and how David magnifies God
with full trust .

Today's Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 22:29-33

29 For thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness.

30 For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.

31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried:
he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

32 For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?

33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

1. How does David view God in verse 29 ?

2. Who does David give credit to when able to leap over a wall ? vs. 30

3.Does David consider the way of God perfect ? Vs 31

4. Why do you think David compares God to a rock in verse 32 ?

5. Do we know of other verses in Scripture that give mention to the Rock ?

Read the following :

Deuteronomy 32: 4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect:
for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth
and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Psalm 94:22 But the Lord is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

2 Samuel 22: 2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

1 Corinthians 10: 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink:
for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them:
and that Rock was Christ.

6. Did David magnify our Lord God in his life ?

Examine the sand and the rock that was brought in today for this
Bible lesson and in your own free time look at the grains of sand and stars
in the night sky
and look at the large rocks .

The physical things of this world help us to learn of God's spiritual
lessons for our lives.

Think about today's lesson
and the faith David had in God.

Apply this lesson to your life:

Think about your faith and trust in God and
the ways in which you can magnify God in your life .

Close in Prayer.
