Yes God
Junior Level

Many times we focus on the things that God tells us that we are not suppose to do or the “thou shalt not’s” of His word.  Yes, there are “thou shalt not’s”, but rarely do we think about or focus on the many yeses in the word of God.  The fact is, the one and only Almighty God is a “Yes God”.  He is a God of yeses did you know that?  God gives many more yeses than no’s.  In this lesson I want to look at some of those many yeses and see the goodness and the benefits to serving the Master.

Handout: Yes God
Teacher's Guide: Yes God

So many times, we as believers fail to see the positive things of God.  Sure there are things that God tells us we cannot do, but more times God tells us YES!  I hope you will come with me on this journey as we look at the truth’s that let us know, we serve a Father who is a Positive and a Yes God!

  1. There are benefits in serving God.

Psalm 103:2 “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:”

What are the benefits of serving the Lord?  Well let’s read the rest of that chapter.  It lists a few of the benefits there are many more but let’s look at these that are listed here shall we?

Psalm 103:3-22
 3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
 4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
 5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
 6The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
 7He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.
 8The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
 9He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
 10He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
 11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
 12As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
 13Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
 14For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
 15As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
 16For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
 17But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and Him righteousness unto children's children;
 18To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
 19The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
 20Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
 21Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.
 22Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.
Wow!  Did you see all those benefits and promises of God to those who will be faithful and trust and obey Him!  That is amazing isn’t it?!  He gives us so many yeses in that one scripture.  Now think about the whole Bible!  There are so many promises God has given to those who love Him and who will trust and obey Him.  Yes Dear Child of God, there are countless benefits to serving our Father!

2. When God says NO, it is because there is a greater YES!

The only time God ever says no to us is that if we did that thing He tells us not to do; it would cheat us out of the “yes” He has in store for us.  If we take the no, we will miss the great yes.  God is not trying to ruin our “fun”.  He knows the destruction behind sin and the death that comes with it and He tells us no to save us from it!

James 1:15 “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Romans 6:22 “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.”

Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life that both thou and thy seed may live.”

God says No because He wants us to thrive and live, and not die.  God always wants good things for His children.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

When God tells you and I NO, we must trust Him even when we don’t understand because He knows all things and we must learn that He is saying no to protect us and give us a greater YES!

Romans 11:33-34 “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!  For who hath known the mind of the LORD? Or who hath been His counselor?”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.”

3.  God is a YES GOD!

When we fully surrender to the LORD and give ourselves to Him, He will ALWAYS give back much more to us than what we give to Him.  When our hearts and hands are open to give to God and giving to others, they are also open to receiving the blessings of God.  When they are closed in greed, they are closed to God’s abundant riches!  We can NEVER out give God, and we can never sacrifice more than the Yeses God will give to us when we obey His no’s.

James 4:4 “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

Is your heart and your hands open to obedience to God?  Do you obey His laws and respect when He says No?  When we respect the No’s of God it is hard for our flesh and it is a sacrifice to our fleshly natures.  However, when we make that sacrifice, each and every time surrendering our will to that of the Holy Spirit, we gain a Yes!  It reminds me of a story I once heard.  I will share it with you now.

The Beggar and the King

There once was a beggar who was very hungry.  He spent the last of his money on a bowl of rice.  As he was sitting underneath a tree to eat his last meal for a while, along came the king of the province in which he lived.  The king got out of his carriage and sit down under the tree along side the beggar.  May I have some of your rice? The king asked.  The beggar held out his bowl and the king got a single grain of rice and ate it.  Again the King asked, May I have more of your rice?  The beggar held out his bowl once again to the king and the king took another single grain of rice and ate it.  The king then asked a third time, may I have some of your rice?  The beggar, in fear that he would not have enough to eat, clutched the bowl close to his chest this time and refused to share.  The king frowned as he got up and left the beggar.  When the king was out of sight, the beggar looked down into his bowl and noticed something shiny.   When he looked more closely he realized that it was two pieces of gold.  Every time the king had taken a grain of rice, he had replaced it with a golden nugget.  The beggar was then sorrowful because in his selfish attempt to hold on to what he had, he had lost a great fortune that he could have gotten had he been more generous.  He could have given more to the king and gotten more in return.

What a tragedy it would be to get to the end of life and see that we could have given more to God and received more of Him.  I want to give all that I have now to my King who is worthy of all.  I want more and more of Him and less and less of me and what this world has to offer.  The things of God are treasures and yeses that will last forever while the ages roll on!

Here are a few of the countless Yeses that God promises to those who will trust and obey Him!  He is truly a YES GOD!
