Praying God’s Word and Believing His Promises
Junior Level

The past few weeks, God has shown up and shown out in a mighty way in my life once more.  My heart rejoices now as I type these words because I KNOW what a mighty God our Father is.  I began to think about all the promises that He has given to us in His word, and so many Christians today sadly do not even realize just how many there are or what they are!  God’s promises are true, and they are powerful in our lives.  When we stand on His promises, we can not fall because God’s promises are a strong foundation which cannot be moved!  In this week’s lesson, I want us to just go over some of the promises in God’s word.  We as His children need to learn and understand that when we go to God in prayer, praying His word, it blesses His heart and He will hear when we call!  His word and prayer are the powerful combination in which Satan and all of hell cannot win against!  It is our source of strength and life!

Handout: Praying God’s Word and Believing His Promises
Teacher's Guide: Praying God’s Word and Believing His Promises

A New Covenant was made through the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross when He lay down His life and shed His blood.  Through this covenant we as believers and children of God have inherited all that God has for us.  This includes the promises that He gave to Abraham.

Galatians 3:29 “And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

We have been given all things because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross!  So many people today do not even realize the treasure that is God’s word.  They sadly see the Bible as just a good book.  In reality when we get deep into the scriptures and begin to seek God in the pages, we find that it is a deep well of promises from our Father that is our life!  Without God’s word we will die spiritually.

When we believe God’s word and stand upon His promises, He will always honor that.  When we are seeking God to move in our lives, if we will go to His word and find scriptures that speak about the situation that we are in, and we pray God’s word we are putting our faith in action, and if it is God’s word we are praying then the Almighty has declared it and therefore it shall be done.  God’s promises are always true…He is not a man and He cannot lie!

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a  man, that He should lie.”

Titus 1:2 “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;”

When we believe God’s word in our heart, and speak it with our mouth, we are speaking our faith into action. All we have to do is believe.

Mark 11:22-24 “22And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. 23For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.24Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

When we pray God’s word, we are praying the will of God, we are focusing on the results instead of the problem or circumstances.  There is a saying, don’t tell God how big the problem is, tell the problem how big GOD is!

We must pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to us those scriptures in God’s word that apply to the situations that we are facing and praying about.  Be wise and do not twist God’s word into saying what you want it to say, this is a trick that Satan will use many times if he can to confuse and deceive.   Remember we agree with God’s word, not twist it to agree with us.  We are on the side of God, not bringing God to our side!

Here I have made a list of some of the promises in God’s word to His children.  There are so many more than I could possibly list in this lesson, but here are some that you can use and learn.  I pray this blesses you as much as it did me!

Victory

Isaiah 54:17 “ 17No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

Jeremiah 20:11 “11But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.”

Jeremiah 39:17-18 “17But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. 18For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD.”

Romans 5:17  “17For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”

1Corinthians 15:57-58 “57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

2 Corinthians 2:14 “ 14Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.”

2 Thessalonians 3:3 “3But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”

2Timothy 4:17-18 “17Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.18And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Power in the Blood

Matthew 26:28 “ 28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

John 1:29  “29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Acts 20:28   “28Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

Romans 3:25 “25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Romans 5: 9 “ 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

Ephesians 1: 7 “7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”

Ephesians 2:13  “ 13But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”

Colossians 1:12-13  “ 12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:”

Colossians 1:20  “20And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Heb 9:12-20 “12Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?15And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. 16For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.17For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.18Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.19For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,20Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. 21Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.22And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Hope

Psalm 31:24  “ 24Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.”

Psalm 33:18  “ 18Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;”

Psalm  38:15  “ 15For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God”

Psalm 43:5 “ 5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

Psalm 78:5-7  “5For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:6That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: 7That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

Jeremiah 17:7  “ 7Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.”

Romans 5:3- 5  “3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4And patience, experience; and experience, hope:5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

Colossians 1:4-5  “ 4Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, 5For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

Colossians 1:27 “  27To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:”

1Thessalonians 5:8-10  “8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.”

GOD Hears Our Cry

Matthew 7:7-8 “7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

John 14: 11-15 “ 11Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. 12Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.15If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Romans 10:13  “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

There are many, many more promises concerning ANYTHING that we must face in this life.  I urge you to get in God’s word and find them, study them, and pray them!  God’s word is powerful and it is life.  I leave you with a quote from Martin Luther that is profound.

Martin Luther said, "What greater insult . . . can there be to God, . . . than not to believe His promises.
