The Great Commission

Do you realize that it is a command from The LORD that every believer go out into the world and tell the lost about the good news of the gospel?  It has been weighing more and more in my spirit lately how important it is for we who are believers to do our part to spread the gospel.  It is not just the pastors and preachers and teachers job, it is the responsibility of every believing child of GOD.  It is my prayer that that at the end of this lesson, everyone understand and act on this command.  There are so many lost souls in the world today seeking, and they only need someone to guide them to The one that can save them.  HE is the way, the truth and the life!  There is a remedy, and HIS name is JESUS CHRIST!  Praise The LORD.

Handout: The Great Commission

Acts 8:26:40 "And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,  Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.  Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.  The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:  In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?  Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.  And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.  And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea."

It stands out in my spirit as I read this passage of scripture, when Philip asked this man, do you understand what you are reading, and the eunuch answers, how can I understand unless someone should guide me.  Wow.  Do you realize that there are lost souls in the world who are just waiting for someone to guide them to JESUS?  Some of them are ready, they are fed up with sin and with this world, but they don't understand that they need JESUS because no one has shared the good news of the gospel with them yet.  It's just like it was recorded in Mathew chapter 9.

Matthew 9:35-38 "And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.  But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.  Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;  Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest."

The Harvest is truly plenteous....but where are the laborers?  I realize that there are many evangelists and people spreading the gospel, but there are more believers that are not doing that work, then those that are.  It's truly a sad shame.  Somewhere along the lines, it's just become a believe in the average heart of a believer that it's the preacher's job to share the gospel, or it's the teacher's job...yes it is their job but it is the responsibility of EVERY SINGLE man, woman, boy, and girl who are born again believers to share the gospel of JESUS CHRIST with people who are lost.  It is not an option, or a suggestion from The LORD.  Let's go to the scriptures.

Matthew 28:18-20 " And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

It is our job to share the gospel.  It is our job to support missionaries, and it is our job to pray, pray, pray!  I grew up knowing who JESUS is, I grew up in church services, but not everyone does.  We have to go out and know that there are some who know that GOD exists but they have no clue who JESUS is or that HE died for their sins or that they must accept HIM in order to go to Heaven.  People are taught in the world that if they are nice people then they can go to Heaven but The Bible says YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN!  (John 3:7)

John 3:7 "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."

Being "good" isn't good enough.  The Bible explains this in the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 64:6 "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

JESUS did not say that he was A way, or one of the ways...HE said "I AM THE WAY!  No person can come to GOD The FATHER except through JESUS CHRIST!  Are we loving people enough to tell them that truth!?

Are we doing everything we can to show them the way to escape hell? It is our duty as believers to take as many people as we can to Heaven with us...It is not someone else's job, it's your job, and it's my job...JESUS tells us to do that. I want my life to be a bill board for CHRIST...Hell is real, and I don't want ANYONE to go there. There is a way to escape it...it's JESUS! Praise The LORD!

The best example of sharing the gospel comes from CHRIST Himself.  Let's go again to the scriptures.

John 4:1-35 "When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,  (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)  He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.  And he must needs go through Samaria.  Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.  There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.  (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)  Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?  Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?  Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.  The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.  Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.  The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?  The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.  In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.  But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.  Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?  Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.  Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."

I love how JESUS went out of His way to go to a place that it was uncommon for HIM to even go, and to talk to people that normally jews had no dealings with what so ever.  Notice the way he struck up a conversation with her and brought it down to her level of understanding and took his time with her.  He kept the conversation about the gospel.  He asked her to go get her husband.  He did that to get her to understand that she was a sinner and that HE was the one that could save her from her sins.  He was getting her to understand that he knew all about her sins yet he was still talking to her and willing to help her.  He wasn't condemning her, He was trying to save her.  It makes me smile to see how she changed the subject when I'm thinking inside her heart was beating out of her chest when he told her he knew about her past with men.

If we are going to reach people for CHRIST, we have to help people understand that what the WORD of GOD says is true...

Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of GOD, not of works, lest any man should boast."

People are deceived and believe that being a "good person" will get them to Heaven, and it is the biggest lie satan ever told!  "Good" people go to hell everyday...Are you born again?   We have to help people understand their need for JESUS CHRIST The SAVIOR!  We have to do it in a non condemning way to help them understand that we are all sinners and the only way to Heaven is to have the righteousness of CHRIST because we just simply cannot be righteous enough to satisfy the holiness of GOD on our own merit.

JESUS is coming soon, and shame on us if we are more concerned of being laughed at or ridiculed than we are about lost souls dropping off into hell for eternity!  This is not a game, it's real.  We MUST be about our FATHER'S business!

Luke 14:23 "And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compelthem to come in, that my house may be filled."

It is my prayer that each person reading this today, understand the need and the urgency to tell the world about JESUS.   It is my prayer that you understand the need to support missionaries through prayer and financially so that the gospel be spread like wild fire!  It is my prayer that we not only understand this but ACT!  I love you all and I encourage you to go out and tell someone about JESUS everyday!  Make it your goal to share the good news with at least one person a day.  It will make all the difference to lost souls who will come to know CHRIST if we will only share the good news!  GOD Bless you all :)

Know these scriptures and memorize them so you can show others how to be saved.

John 3:16 "For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish but have everlasting life."

Romans 10:8-13 "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Heavenly Father...

Thank YOU for YOUR plan of Salvation.  Thank YOU for loving us so much that YOU sent YOUR only begotten SON into the world that we might have life and have it more abundantly.  Thank YOU for forgiving us and cleansing us from all unrighteousness.  Help us to go out into our communities, villages, cities, our neighborhoods and tell lost souls about JESUS and the way to escape hell and the way to eternal life with YOU.  Help us to be prayer warriors and to support those who are sent abroad for YOUR glory.  Help us to feel the urgency of telling the lost about JESUS.  Thank YOU for equipping us and empowering us to do what YOU have commanded us to do.  We love YOU LORD...In JESUS name we pray...Amen.
