Chapter 4
Noah and a Flood
by Jenny Wren
Someone asked me to tell in my own words how I see what I read in Genesis? And how did it look to my mind’s eye? So, as somewhat of a writer (with a vivid imagination)… about the scene I vision when earth and creation first began…
Chapter 4
Noan and the Ark
Such a sinful time erupted
across the whole world,
as the families of mankind grew.
No matter where they landed
the population exploded
with sin abounding, everywhere,
towns, cities and countries.
Yes it seemed the earth filled
with sins of adultery, hate, lust, idol worship,
sins of each and every description.
The satanic atmosphere was covering the earth.
God shook his head in disgust,
until his eyes landed upon Noah.
There God looked inside of Noah's heart
and saw a spark of hope.
Noah soon was called to preach
against the sins of the people.
Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
It was faith Noah, when warned
about things not yet seen,
in holy fear started to build an ark
to save his family. By his faith
he condemned the world and became heir
to the righteousness that comes by faith.
Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
So God spoke to Noah,
"I am going to put an end
to all people,
for the earth is filled with violence
because of them.
I am surely going to destroy
both them and the earth,
male and female.
I want you Noah to build you an ark
for you and your family,
all of your children and their wives
your family. Noah,
I am going to save you and your family
for a new world.
For a hundred years Noah
worked on building an ark.
It was a monstrosity, a huge boat,
made to the specifications of the Lord himself
who laid out the plans for Noah to follow.
Noah did everything just as God commanded.
There were to be rooms built
for each and every kind of animal on the earth
and they were mated
and placed in holding pens,
and when the ark was near completion,
the animals started going in,
there was both male and female
of every living thing,
as God had commanded Noah.
The LORD then said to Noah,
"Now you go into the ark,
you and your whole family,
because I have found you righteous
in this generation
which disobeyed long ago."
Yes,
when God had waited patiently
in the days of Noah
while the ark was being built.
In it now only a few people, eight in all,
were to be saved
through the directions of God
from drowning,
as the world’s population will do.
On that very day Noah and his sons,
Shem, Ham and Japheth,
together with his wife and
the wives of his three sons,
entered the ark.
Every living thing
on the face of the earth was wiped out;
in the six hundredth year of Noah's life,
on the seventeenth day of the second month-
For in the days before the flood,
people were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage,
up to the day Noah entered the ark.
Noah had entered the ark,
as God had commanded him.
On that day
all the springs of the great deep burst forth,
and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.
Men and animals and the creatures
that move along the ground,
the birds of the air,
were wiped from the earth.
Only Noah was left and those with him in the ark.
The People cried to be let in
but there was no entrance to the big boat,
as it slowly squeaked and started to float
in an uneasy movement, as rains fell
(for the first time).
It was as if an ocean had floated overhead
and had just emptied upon the earth.
The boat bobbed about in the deep waters.
Noah and his family
and the saved animals were safe;
they were the only life upon earth.
Even the mountain-sides and
every tree all over the earth
were covered in flood water.
Sin had been drowned.
After forty days Noah opened
the one window he had made in the ark
by the first day of the first month of Noah's
six hundred and first year,
the water had dried up from the earth.
Noah then removed the covering
from the ark and saw
that the surface of the ground was dry.
So Noah came out, together with his sons
and his wife and his sons' wives.
The sons of Noah
who came out of the ark were
Shem, Ham and Japheth.
(Ham was the father of Canaan.)
Noah, a man of the soil,
proceeded to plant a vineyard.
Then the colored arch of light came.
After the rains would fall, and
sometimes we see a rainbow to this day
and it is the reminder of
that horrible happening that
was done all because of sin.
Yes our rainbow
is a reminder of the Love of God,
a constant reminder to the people
that the earth would never be
destroyed by a flood anymore.
If he did not spare the ancient world
when he brought the flood
on its ungodly people,
what makes people think
they are going to get by
with so much sin this day?
God protected Noah,
a preacher of righteousness,
and seven others;
from whom we have descended today.
